ALCHEMY OF LOVE (Fatah Evans)
There are days when I feel the warmth of the sun,
Hear the sweet voices of the song birds in the air,
And feel the gentleness of the breeze upon my skin.
I notice, also, the sustenance I receive from the vine,
Whose roots go into the earth,
And I am intoxicated by life.

Then there are days of other sorts,
When I do not know who I am
And I fall into the slumber of Forgetfulness,
Until again I feel the warmth of the sun.
The sweet voices and the gentleness on the breeze.

Suddenly I am plucked from the vine
And tossed into a basket
To be carried away
And that deep pain of separation
Awoke every ancient memory within myself
In which I had ever felt abandoned and alone.

I thought then felt, why not do it another way
Why not let go.
We passed through landscapes
I have never seen before,
Past trees whose names I did not know,
Yet their leaves dancing in the wind
Seem to say "that's right,
You can relax now, just let go."

I was drunk again,
And they tossed me into the vat.
There I saw other parts of myself,
And recalled that Isis, the goddess, had sent ministers
To go about the countryside
And gather all the parts of Osiris
To bring them back so he could be re-membered
Wholly and completely himself.

Then I looked up at the winemakers eyes,
She lovingly looking at mine, and she says,
"That's right, you can relax now, just like go."

A movement began, some pulsing and stomping.
Then my skin peal broke open
And my pulp spilled everywhere.

The movement slowed, then stopped
And in that quiet moment
I realize I had become the wine of the Holy Sacrament.
Then the winemaker placed me upon The Marriage Altar
Of The One.

I step back now and wonder,
Perhaps one or many may journey there
In their own way, here
And then we can sip of each other.
